Virtual Tours, Exhibitions, and Activities
The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) is internationally recognized as having achieved a preeminent place among the world’s most important orchestras. The BSO is providing free performance videos, “Early Listener’s Guides” for young ones, and options to pay for virtual concerts access to support the BSO.
Founded in 1960, Baltimore Heritage, Inc. is Baltimore’s nonprofit historic and architectural preservation organization. For the past few months, Baltimore Heritage has been doing a “Five Minute Histories” series with short videos featuring historic places in Baltimore, exploring topics including Civil Rights history, mercantile history, immigration history, religious history, and more.
The National Aquarium is nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire conservation of the world’s aquatic treasures.
BMA Salon features curated digital exhibitions by Baltimore-based galleries and collectives. Explore the virtual galleries on this site, and if you’re able, be sure to support them! All transactions will be conducted by the individual galleries, who will keep all proceeds from sales.
The Walters Art Museum is a cultural hub in the heart of Baltimore. The Walters is providing free coloring pages based on their collection, a free app for a virtual tour, and more.
Located in the heart of Downtown Baltimore, the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture is the premier experience and best resource for information and inspiration about the lives of African American Marylanders. The Museum has a collection of about 10,000 objects. Its Online Collection Portal, contains digitized images which are accessible to scholars, students and the general public.
The Poe House and Museum offers pay-what-you-can live tours with a docent where you learn the history of Edgar Allan Poe’s life in Baltimore, explore the poet’s mysterious death in the city in 1849, and learn about the poems and short stories Poe wrote while residing at this house. There’s also a free video tour to watch at your leisure.
The AVAM is America’s official national museum and education center for intuitive, self -taught artistry, located in Baltimore. There’s how-to videos for art projects at home with everyday household items, coloring pages, and computer backgrounds.
The Creative Alliance builds communities by bringing together artists and audiences from diverse backgrounds to experience spectacular arts and education programs and engage in the creative process. They provide support to area artists, promote Baltimore as a center for creative production, act as a positive force in our community, and advocate for cultural expression rooted in a sense of place.
Chesapeake Shakespeare Company is the leading classical theatre company in Maryland, offering vibrant performances that blow the dust off of Shakespeare and delight its patrons. There is currently a digital exhibit on actor Ira Aldridge.
The Mid-Atlantic Regional Moving Image Archive (MARMIA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and access of movies and sounds that document the arts, history, and culture of the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region. The largest collection is the WJZ-TV Collection, which holds thousands of hours of content created by Baltimore television station WJZ-TV ranging in date from the 1950s through 2000. Digitized content can be viewed and downloaded for non-commercial purposes through MARMIA’s Internet Archive collection.
